# of Interpretations for The Tale of Dusty and Pistol Pete: 1 E-mail Aaron with your own video interpretations.

The setting is a town in the old west. The video has a sort of golden, old movie look. The opening scene: as the music begins we see James(Dusty) in cowboy attire, riding into a town. Then it cuts to James and D'arcy(who is in an old western style white dress) arguing about something outside of D'arcy's characters dressing room on the second floor of a saloon. ("Dusty screams through doors and imaginary floors")Dusty then screams "why can't you miss me" (which James just mouths as Billy sings it) as D'arcy slams the door in his face. Cut to a general store, Billy (who plays Pistol Pete) is dressed in black with a black hat and partly unclean shave. Pistol Pete is trying to make out with D'arcy's character (Dusty's girlfriend), who is trying to resist as he holds he wrists down, but he finally overpowers her---he kisses her madly. As the kiss is occurring, Dusty(James) is seeing this from a distance, which makes it appear to him that his girlfriend is making out with Pistol Pete. Noticeably shaken by the incident, D'arcy's character finally pushes Pistol Pete away.("Pistol Pete removes the final breaths from her unkind and she is shaken...") Then her eyes meet Dusty's, who looks betrayed and angered. Then it shows brief flashes of Dusty's memories of the times they had together as he looks at her as she seems to be contemplating their future, then he starts to walk away. She then runs outside and calls to him "Dusty, you don't understand", which you can't actually hear, but he doesn't looks back.(this during the part of the song which start off "what does this mean, in war or in peace....") Cut to D'arcy's character, who comes out of her dressing room and goes down and starts singing as the pianist begins to play. As she is singing she seems to be looking for Dusty(James). Meanwhile James seems to be depressed as he looks at the grey clouds in the sky. When D'arcy doesn't see James, she stops her set and the pianist stops. She then goes over to the bar and starts ordering drinks.("let the waste cross the ancient trails.....) As Billy's singing stops for the moment, Dusty(James) is seen walking alone (while D'arcy's character is at the bar drinking) when he sees that he is back at the saloon. On the front of the building, beside the doors, he sees an old western style poster with D'arcy's picture on it and it says "Singing Tonight, Ava Adore!"---he goes into the saloon. Ava(D'arcy), now noticeably drunk, gets up from the bar and staggers towards Dusty(James).(this is at the part of the song "....with raven hands, she steals and staggers towards her man") From this disturbing sight, he storms out the saloon and looks to see Pistol Pete. The both of them prepare to draw their guns, being the quicker one to draw, Dusty shoots Pistol Pete, carrying out his vengeance.(".......disaster and love, vengeance and dust....") As the video progresses, Ava wakes up from her hangover in her dressing room and James comes into the bar one last time. Ava Adore(D'arcy) is seen putting makeup on to get ready for her next set when Dusty his walking up to the dressing room. When he gets their he screams through the door as they begin to argue about the incident with Pistol Pete. Ava explains what happened through the door and Dusty says he sorry. She opens the door and reaches out for his hand as he is about to turn away. Cut to Dusty(James) shedding a tear as he holds her down and then kisses her outside the saloon.("teardrop as he holds her down...." We then see a shot of the town, focusing on the trails. Dusty is then seen packing up his stuff and saying his goodbyes to Ava for now. He then gets on the horse and as he is starting to ride out of town, he looks back and sees Ava 'kissing him' goodbye, then waving. He waves back. As the song ends, you see him riding off out of town into the distance.
