*The setting is a nice, dark, gloomy city. It's night
outside and it looks very damp and unforgiving. You
see the band in the middle of a park playing alone.
They all look very somber and Billy is wearing his
black trench coat. As the drums pick up, Billy looks away, and the camera changes over to a street in the same city.* (You're gonna walk on home. You're gonna walk alone. You're gonna see this through, don't let them get to you.) *The camera pans up to a building which reads, "Newark Abortion Hospital." You see a young woman exit the building sadly, and make her way down the sidewalk. She has a very paranoid look on her face, as though everyone around her knows what she just did. She looks like she is struggling to keep it together as she walks quickly down the city.* (Shame, shame, shame.) *You see the woman finally collapse alongside a wall and begin crying. People pass her by without a second thought. At the break before the 2nd verse, the woman pulls herself up, tightens her jacket, and disappears into the darkness of the city.* (Love is good and love is kind. Love is drunk and love is blind. Love is good and love is mine. Love is drunk all the time.) *The camera is now inside a house. You see a woman and small boy huddled against a wall as the woman's husband slaps her across the face hard. Both are crying as the husband storms out of the house and gets into his truck and drives off. You see the man take a drink of beer and as he looks up, swerves to miss a telephone pole. Just as the truck is about to collide into the pole, the scene changes over to a shot of the boy asleep in bed.* (Shame, shame, shame, shame.) *The woman runs around the house collecting her things and some money. She then hastily stops in her boy's room. She pauses a moment to watch him sleep. She kisses him on the head and exits the room in tears, as she gets into a car and drives off. You then see the boy wake up the next morning. He calls for his mom and look around the house. The final shot is of him standing in the living room looking very confused.* *As the bass builds up, you see Billy look down at his wedding ring and slip in off and into a sewer grate. He begins walking down the sidewalk as it begins to rain.* (You're gonna walk on home. You're gonna walk alone. You're gonna walk so far. You're gonna wonder who you are.) *Billy sings as tears begin to fall from his eyes as he realizes his own guilt and shame. You see shots of the band looking down as Billy walks away, and putting away their instruments partially guilty. They want to follow after him, but know that he won't let them in.* (Shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame.) *The camera pans out to see different shots of nameless individuals walking down the street. You also see different shots of the band as they walk their different directions, each trying to avoid the fact that they are all hurting. The shot finally ends on Billy who slides down a tree to sit on the ground crying. During the synthesizer break, you see some more shots of the band a they turn around and walk back toward the park. As the music is ending, you see an exhausted Billy, sitting against the tree, still. His eyes are red and the rain is still pouring around him.* (Love is good and love is kind. Love is good and love is blind. Love is good and love is mine. Love is good all the time.) *Billy has a sad, ironic smile on his face as he sings this. He has a look as though, this time, he wishes he could hide his sadness in something as safe a sarcasm. But he ultimately loses the smile as his band stands before him. He makes no moves to get up, and James walks off exasperated. Jimmy soon follows, though less emotionally. D'Arcy gently bends down and plants a kiss on his head. She smiles down on him sadly as a tear streaks her cheek. She gets up and follows the others. Billy looks up at the retreating figures and rests his head against his hand as he closes his eyes as dawn breaks.* (Hello, goodbye. You know, you made us cry. Hello, goodbye. You know, you made us cry. Hello, goodbye. You know, you made us cry. Hello, goodbye. You know, you made us cry. Hello, goodbye. You know, you made us cry. Hello, goodbye. You know, you made us cry. Hello, goodbye. You know, you made us cry.) *The band walks down the street in silence. You see shots of them, and of different people, all showing the same look of aloneness. Finally, James and Jimmy part from D'Arcy, each going a different way. D'Arcy pauses a moment, feeling more alone then ever. Soon though she continues down the street in silence. The camera faces James and Jimmy also showing how sad they are too. The scene closes on a shot a Billy sleeping beneath the tree. All four needing each other's support so much that they push each other away. By: Patty Blair : OwenaX24@yahoo.com |
