April 4, 2008 - Festival Hall - Melbourne VIC, Australia
Concert review by ken

After arriving in Melbourne a few hours earlier i made my way to Festival Hall.

Festival Hall was a great mid sized venue with character.
This venue seemed to be very 80s.
Even the urinals were very retro!
Festival Hall was a lot smaller than the Hordern Pavilion and the stage seemed closer to the fans and more intimate.
Doors opened just before 7:30pm and through Door 6 to the floor area.
Everyone was sitting down initially up the front and then suddenly everyone got up and moved forward! what the F..!
there was still 20 minutes before they were due to come on. it was weird!
Started with Porcelina and into Behold.
Mayonaise was beautiful and tonight we weren't to get the song Starla but we were lucky to get Drown instead.
Sydney got Starla and Melbourne got Drown.
what more can i ask for!

Billy mentioned something that happened at the Adelaide concert when he mentioned playing an old song.
Soon as he mentioned Adelaide people were booing and shouting out that Adelaide is a shithole!
I guess people in Mebourne dont really think much of Adelaide.

Before they played Bullet With Butterfly Wings Billy was ranting to the crowd in the seated area to the sides of the main floor and how they were like caged up with the fencing.
He was asking them what they did wrong to be locked up in a cage. "Did you wash your car with the water restrictions or something??
During Bullet he pointed to the caged areas to sing it but they were pretty quiet and disappointing.
The floor was singing it and getting into it.
Ava Adore rocked the crowd was happy to get 1979.

At this point the setlist was very simliar to the Sydney except they changed the oreder of the songs a bit and they played Drown instead of Starla.
But it was strange that at around 9:40pm after they played My Blue Heaven Billy went off and they took about a 5 minute break. Was this the end of the main set??
Were they going to play a shorter set tonight???
In Sydney they played straight through to United States before the encore. Well over 2 hours and closer to 2.5 hours.

When they came back on they just went straight into Everlasting Gaze,Cash Car Star and the beautiful Crush.

Jesse Corgan came on with the tambourine for The Rose March.
Something we didnt get in Sydney.
It was great to see the brothers on stage together.
You can tell that they are both very close and its great that Jesse can join the band on this Australian tour.

They finished off with United States and then the lights came on.
I guess we weren't going to get Cherub Rock for an encore.
still an awesome gig at a great venue.

Happy Days!
